Cold Interiors Get Infused With More Warmth, Texture

Minimalist interiors may be losing favor to more memorable, texture-filled or color-drenched styles. Even all-white, spa-like bathrooms are getting more colorful and textured. Liston Design Build, a home remodeling contractor, identifies the following trends that they believe will shape many homeowners’ decisions and purchases this year.

All Those Cozy, Warm Feels

“We may finally say goodbye to all-white/gray interiors and hello to warmer neutrals and pops of color, like dusty pinks and earthy reds,” Liston Design Build notes. “In addition, cozy, tactile textures; wood wall treatments and accents; and bringing natural elements into the home continue to capture our attention.”

Creative Uses of Space

“In recent years, the need for our spaces to serve multiple purposes has become paramount,” according to Liston Design Build’s list of 2023 interior trends to watch. “Yet there must be intentional design and spatial planning in order for everyone to feel like they have a space in their home to call theirs that also doesn’t feel cramped.”

Multipurpose laundry rooms, built-in storage, benches under the stairs and even built-in pet areas are some of the ways designers are using every nook and cranny of the home to expand space—all without adding any square footage

Form and Function Has Wellness Appeal

“In recent years, between work-from-home schedules and improvement in tech, the necessity of always being ‘on’ and connected has presented a real issue for rest and relaxation,” Liston Design Build notes in its report. “Homeowners are wanting their spaces to usher in tranquility and peace of mind, as if they have stepped away from the office—even if the office is at home—and into a serene spa.”

The spa-like bathroom, which often includes a statement bathtub, spacious walk-in shower, double vanities and elegant lighting, is coming back into focus. These areas are getting high-tech, too, with voice activation faucets, overflow tubs or temperature-control showerheads.
